Some more information about us. Knobbs Hardware is an independent family firm run by husband and wife team Timothy and Angela from a purpose-built workshop in Pembrokeshire. Back in 2004 we moved into our 1930s bungalow with its original doors and door knobs. The door knobs were fairly worn and a search on-line uncovered a firm based only a couple of miles away called Knobbs Hardware. We went to see the owner and he made us some beautiful new replica door knobs. We kept in touch the owner and when told us he was due to retire he asked if we would like to buy the business. Neither of us had run a business before or turned door knobs but we said yes!
Angela spent the next 6 months learning the trade and how to operate a lathe while Tim spent his leave time from the Merchant Navy designing and helping to build a workshop. Down came the leaky old tin garage and a lovely timber building went up in its place. In April 2011 we officially took the reins and have never looked back. We have gained an excellent reputation for producing quality wooden door knobs and pride ourselves on our friendly and professional service. There’s no hard sell involved, many of our customers come back to us again for the personal touch and high end finish.
Tim has an engineering background and looks after the metalwork side of things including tools and machinery maintenance and is responsible for research and development. Angela (pictured on the home page on the lathe) takes care of the day to day running of Knobbs Hardware and makes the door and cupboard knobs.
Towards the end of 2017 we had an extension built onto the workshop which will comprise of two new rooms, one to house some of the machinery and the other will be a “clean” space where we can pack up our orders and get them ready to post.
We are constantly trying to think up new styles and shades for our door knobs – perhaps you can’t see what you have in mind on any of our pages, but please email or give us a call and we will do our utmost to ensure you get the door knobs you want. Maybe you have door knobs that are of a style no longer readily available – in which case we can replicate that style and make some new ones for you. The same applies to furniture – for example if you have and old chest of drawers or wardrobe with missing knobs we can make new ones that will match the existing ones as closely as possible. We love to receive pictures and photographs and are happy to work with you to achieve the desired outcome. Please be assured we will not pass on your details to anyone.
Here at Knobbs Hardware customers are treated as we like to be treated. We try to answer the telephone promptly and if you don’t get a reply straight away please leave a message and we will return your call as soon as possible. The lathe and dust extractor are rather loud! Emails are checked regularly throughout the day and you won’t be left wondering what is going on with your order. Good customer service goes hand in hand with good quality products and you will find us friendly and approachable. All the comments on our testimonials page are from genuine happy customers.
Being a small firm enables us to spend time with our customers ensuring that you get the very best service and exactly the right door or cupboard knobs. Our products are VAT FREE giving our customers better value for money. There are plenty of door knob suppliers out there, but ours are actually hand crafted right here in the UK on the premises. By purchasing our door and cupboard knobs you will be helping to support British manufacturing.
Our brassware is solid, heavy, very high quality and has an unlacquered finish, meaning it will age beautifully. Our brass roses and collars are exclusively made for us. Other finishes are available including nickel, chrome antique brass, antique bronze and brushed stainless steel. If brass is not to your taste we also make wooden roses (sometimes called backplates) to match your door knobs.
Commissions and trade enquires are always welcome. As our door knobs are individually hand made size and colour may vary ever so slightly.
*Our door knobs are not mass produced imports – we make them ourselves in our workshop in rural Pembrokeshire*
